Happy Holidays Dragons!

With the holiday season upon us, the well-being of our school community continues to be a top priority. We understand this time of year can be overwhelming, so we want to share five simple yet effective strategies to support your mental well-being. These may seem basic, but they can have a significant impact on overall health.
1. Identify and Acknowledge Needs: Each of us has different needs and that’s ok. What is tolerable for one person may be too much for another. Identifying and naming what we need decreases our sense of frustration and resentment by allowing us to validate our feelings and set healthy boundaries.
2. Get Outside and Get Moving: Aim for at least 30 minutes of outdoor activity daily. Time outside away from the screen gives our minds the opportunity to rest and reset. Go sledding, take a walk around your home, a park, or other safe area where you can unplug from your regular responsibilities.
3. Make Time for Sleep: There are extra events and family gatherings during the holidays. Even if you are feeling positive about the extra things happening in your life, it is necessary to acknowledge that they require more from us. Finding ways to rest after energy demanding interactions will help you move forward in your day in positive ways.
4. Practice Self-Compassion: The holidays can be difficult for many reasons. Grief and loss are often felt more intensely during this time when extended families usually gather. Family gatherings in general can often be stressful when opinions clash and tensions rise. Practice self-compassion by identifying what is difficult for you, naming it, and giving yourself kindness and support.
5. Download the STOPit app: If you or a family member is struggling, download the STOPit app to immediately text a counselor. The STOPit app is available 24/7 and is FREE for everyone in our school community. There are 4,000 trained counselors online, day and night, ready to help. Click on the Crisis Text Line button on the STOPit app to be connected to a counselor.
Getting Started with STOPit: 1. Download the STOPit app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
2. Select your school from the dropdown menu.
3. Accept the Terms & Conditions.
We wish you and your family a safe & healthy holiday season!

Have a safe and happy holiday season Dragons!
See you back at school on Thursday, Jan. 4th, 2024.
