March is National Nutrition Month, a time to focus on the importance of making informed food choices and developing healthy eating habits. This year's theme encourages individuals to celebrate the benefits of a balanced diet, explore new foods, and understand the role nutrition plays in overall health and well-being. Let’s use this month to educate ourselves, share knowledge, and inspire each other to make healthier choices that can lead to a vibrant and active lifestyle!

Exciting things are happening in the third grade hall!! Each class received six fertilized eggs from the OSU Ag Extension Office to start beginning the process of incubation and chick hatching. Yesterday, Laura Vandaveer graced us with her presence and expertise on both egg anatomy and egg candling. Laura, we appreciate you taking the time to make sure that our chicks hatch and our students have the most memorable experience!
So far, one classroom still has all six of their eggs incubating. The other four classes are down to four eggs. We can't wait to hear chirps throughout the hall soon and I know all of the students are excited to meet their new chick friends!

These third grade girls showed up today all decked out in pink. They took twinning to a whole new level! #pinkout

Today, Mrs. Arnold's 5th grade Social Studies classes learned about the Boston Massacre while enjoying the sunshine ☀️ and getting some exercise utilizing The Walking Classroom!
The Walking Classroom is an innovative educational approach that combines physical activity with learning. Designed to improve student engagement, comprehension, and overall well-being, this method involves students walking while listening to educational podcasts or lessons through personal audio devices. Thank you to Healthy Schools Oklahoma and TSET for funding this program for our students!!! #hsok #tset

Jumping into Heart Health!
During Heart Health Month, our PE classes are taking on the challenge of jump rope! It’s an excellent cardiovascular workout—fun, affordable, and great for building endurance. Students are learning exciting tricks like the rocker, skip, side swing, and cross-cross. Plus, we’ve kicked off the 1-2-3 Minute Club Challenge to test their stamina and skills. Keep jumping, keep moving, and keep your heart healthy!

Look how much fun Ms. Greenlee's class has been having!! They took learning about how to read and take measurements to the next level with "Measurement Mania." Her students roamed the room, measuring anything and everything that they could, including themselves!

In PE, we have been learning how to play pickleball. Pickleball is a fast-growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong.
We learned and practiced essential pickleball skills such as grip and paddle control, serving, volleys, footwork and positioning, and communication.
Learning these skills also provides numerous health benefits such as cardiovascular exercise, muscular strength, balance and coordination, social connection, and mental well-being.
To wrap up our pickleball unit, we held a tournament last week among students in each 4th and 5th grade class. Congrats to our 2025 Pickleball Champs! (Colin Woods, Jaiden Patel, Esme Ocampo, Indy Venegas, Jackson Barrett, Cooper Bookout, Hulon McGee, Kylen Washington, Tripp Webb, Angelique Barrera, Asher Stone, Noah Simmons, Luis Resendiz, Scarlett Jackson, Star Maxen, Adrian Nunez, Alex Rendon, Mason Spurlin, Emma Tate, Kipton Selman, Broadie Ingram)

Please join us in wishing Officer Fumi a Happy National #SROAppreciationDay2025 ! We are thankful for his service and our partnership with the Purcell Police Department!

What do you think when you hear the words "graphing" and "data?" They're typically not paired with anything fun in the adulting world. Miss Windham, a third grade teacher, made it her mission to make learning about those specific concepts enjoyable.
In third grade, the students have been learning about various ways to interpret, identify, and create graphs. Miss Windham's students rotated through different small group stations, reviewing and practicing these standards. The stations included some fan favorites: bottle flipping, rock paper scissors, animals, board games, and giant dice. So much fun!

Did you know that a child's heart is roughly the size of their fist, while an adult's heart is about the size of two hands clasped together? This difference in size reflects the growth and development that occurs as we age. Despite their smaller size, children's hearts pump just as vigorously, supporting their energetic activities and overall health. Understanding these differences can help us appreciate the remarkable changes our bodies undergo throughout life!

In PE, our 4th and 5th grade students had an amazing experience with archery through the NASP program! Learning the 11 steps to success not only builds their skills but also introduces them to a sport they can enjoy for a lifetime. There’s something really exciting about that moment when they get to put their skills to the test and see their arrows hit the target. Archery is such a great way to build focus, patience, and confidence!

This week in PE, our third graders played a game called Pyramid Math Battle! Students rolled dice and used their addition/multiplication facts to move up levels on a pyramid. They each got a ton of cardiovascular exercise as well as math practice!

Our PTO did it again! They are always finding special ways to show their love and support to our staff! They provided chili and all the fixins to wrap up another great week, and it was delicious! ❤️#blessed#dragonPTO

Our student council participated in a leadership workshop on Thursday led by Emily Dumas from Ag in the Classroom. They discussed the qualities of being a good leader and strategies they can use throughout their lifetime! Honesty, integrity, responsibility, accountability, being a good listener, and being a team player are just some of the traits we discussed and what we strive to be as leaders of Purcell Intermediate!

What a fun first whole week back to school! Third grade has been learning about different energy sources through science projects and various reading materials. They have also been learning many skills involving money and how to use it. In Miss Windham's class, one of the activities the students completed for math was hunting through their favorite book catalogs. Being given a hypothetical $25.00 amount, each student searched for as many items as they could without going over. The highest amount was 6! After a whole week of discussing wind power and other forms of energy, her class also participated in building their own wind turbines. Welcome the new group of wind turbine specialists!!
