In PE, we have learned the basics of softball/baseball such as catching, throwing, and batting! We've learned how to run bases, catch pop flys, and throw to the base in front of the runner. The best part is the sportsmanship! They have really been encouraging one another and helping each other learn the game! We've scrimmaged and we are ready to play ball! Students may wear their gameday attire (jerseys/uniforms)to school tomorrow! Some classes even picked team colors! We are excited to finish this unit with a fun and friendly game of wiffleball during their rotation time!

We were so excited to share this with you all! In Miss Windham's third-grade class, her students recently completed an entire unit on Oklahoma. They created timelines, discussed historical events, viewed online museums and photographs, compared Oklahoma's symbols to those of other states, identified its surrounding states, listened to various read-alouds, and conversed about its origins and landforms. One project in this unit that her students were particularly excited about combined their passion for science and social studies. Each student made a physical map of Oklahoma on cardboard and went through the process of creating salt dough. Afterward, they used the salt dough to demonstrate the state's landforms and painted them to add the finishing touches! Look how awesome they turned out!!

Third graders love experiencing enriched literacy and having fun while doing it! Over the span of three weeks, they were given the opportunity to participate in a reading tournament. One set of classes read books listed on the right side of the brackets, while the other set read books on the left. They switched each week and went through a series of voting forums to determine which book would be the overall winner. Our third graders were pleased to hear that "Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World's Most Famous Bear" by Lindsay Mattick was deemed the most beloved of all the bracket books and the winner of our tournament! Thank you Mrs. Frankenberg for initiating and hosting this tournament! They truly loved every moment of it!

Our students wrapped up the March Madness Step Challenge with a fun reward: the winning class from each grade got to attend a baseball game at the Heart of Oklahoma tournament! Thanks to the All Sports Dragon Fire Booster Club for sponsoring this awesome experience. Each student received a game ticket, popcorn, soft-serve ice cream, and water. We had a great time—and so did others around us! A CCS grandparent complimented our students on their great behavior and manners, and several parents thanked us for cheering on the Royals. A big thank-you to Mrs. Swayze and all the teachers and paraprofessionals who helped make this day happen for our kids!

State testing can be a stressful time for students, making it even more important to start the day with a nutritious breakfast. Eating a balanced meal in the morning fuels the brain, improves focus, and enhances memory, all of which are essential for performing well on tests. A breakfast rich in whole grains, fruits, and proteins helps maintain energy levels and keeps blood sugar stable, allowing students to tackle challenges with confidence. Prioritizing breakfast not only supports academic success but also promotes overall well-being during this critical time!

In Miss Windham's third-grade class, students demonstrated their knowledge through a creative activity. Each pair received old Scholastic News booklets, labels, and poster paper. To assess their understanding of text features, they were tasked with identifying and labeling various features within the booklets on a poster. The results were both impressive and informative!

Have any of you visited the African animal exhibit at the OKC Zoo? On Monday, our third graders had the opportunity to experience their Making Tracks guided tour program. The students researched and wrote about select African animals beforehand and were able to expand their knowledge through meaningful and informative conversations with their tour guides. We had quite the turn-out of both students and parents actively participating in the fun! This program was presented and funded by Bob Moore Subaru. The OKC Zoo and their employees brought kindness, patience, and in-depth knowledge during the entire process of going to the zoo and throughout the guided tours. We appreciate the enriched learning experience that they all provided our students! To the parents of our third grade students, thank you for spending the day with us and investing in your student's learning! It meant a great deal to every student and teacher!

In honor of hatching chicks and learning about parts of an egg, Miss Windham's class had a series of egg experiments! During an on-going, three day process, her students learned about the science behind osmosis, how to make an egg shell disappear, how to shrink an egg, and how to expand an egg to double its size. Watch out world, true scientists are in our midst!
