Today, Mrs. Austin's fourth grade classes learned about democracy, Election Day, and what the Presidential Election looks like.
They even got to go through the voting process as they voted on what they thought the best food was. 🇺🇸🗳️
Yesterday, third grade participated in Purcell's Wellness Week and said "BOO!" to drugs on Halloween. Look how creative many of their costumes were!
Pumpkin Patch Games in PE 🎃👻
Today we said BOO 👻 to drugs as part of our Wellness Week! There were so many great costumes! Be safe tonight and have a Happy Halloween!🎃
In third grade, the students have been reading the story "Whooping Cranes in Danger." They have learned about their migration, their recovery away from being an extinct species, and various facts about the life of a whooping crane. In Ms. Windham's class, the students learned how the whooping cranes and other birds fly, along with what helps them migrate long distances. Using colored paper, tape, paper clips, glue, scissors, and excellent folding skills, the students were tasked with creating a plane that can travel great distances and soar high in the sky, just like the ultralight planes the whooping cranes followed to learn how to fly!
Mrs. Arnold’s 5th grade social studies classes completed a project that combined research skills with artistic expression, focusing on the Jamestown Settlement. The students researched the structure and building style of the Jamestown Fort and then created a 3D model based on their findings. This hands-on approach encourages creativity as students were able to use everyday household items to construct their model of the historical fort. This assignment not only enhanced their understanding of early American history but also fosters innovation and problem-solving as they worked hard to bring their research to life.
Yesterday, the Intermediate had the opportunity to send off the Purcell Lady Dragons and cheer them on as they get ready for their state softball game! This morning, they're starting their game at this very moment and we couldn't be more proud! #takestate 🥎
In Ms. Windham's third grade class, the students have been reading a story about two children starting an organization to help rescue animals suffering from oil spills in the ocean. Through a series of timed challenges, the students got to experience how cleaning up oil in a body of water and off of a creature could be hard work!
4th grade reading and writing kiddos had some fun with fall activities on the last day before fall break! Their creativity is exhilarating. HAPPY FALL BREAK! 🍃🍁
Our 4th graders learned about force and motion in science/math! They did a race car friction investigation. They learned how to collect data and use the data to determine the effects that different types of friction had on their car's energy!
At the end of last week, third grade the opportunity to see the Wild Robot and have fun with their friends and family at the Pauls Valley park! The women working at the Royal Theater in Pauls Valley did a phenomenal job at being patient and being prepared for all of us! There were about 55 parents who came, selling out the entire theater! Since there were so many parents, the workers graciously waited to start the movie until mostly everyone was seated. The students did a terrific job while having to wait about 50 minutes for the Wild Robot to start!
From everyone in third grade, students and teachers, thank you to everyone who helped make this experience memorable!
A big thank you to Fire Marshal Quinn Kroth and the Purcell Fire Department for spending the day teaching our students about fire safety. They took time to answer questions, highlight the importance of checking smoke alarms, and encouraged families to create escape plans. Our students also had the exciting opportunity to explore the ladder truck and learn about the many tools firefighters use. We truly appreciate our first responders for their dedication and the time they spent with our students. It was a valuable and memorable experience for everyone!🧑🚒🚒🧯#firepreventionweek
Look at how creative our third graders are!! The students have been learning about abstract art with Mr. Franco in TEAMS. Their projects are displayed in the third grade hallway for everyone to enjoy!
The K-Kids had the opportunity to help out at the first annual McClain County Domestic Violence Awareness Walk! They were busy filling grab bags, ensuring everyone signed waivers, passing out candles, and lending a hand in many other ways. The community was thrilled to have their support, and it was heartwarming to see them involved in such an important event. Afterwards, so many people commented on how well-behaved and respectful they were. We’re so proud of these young leaders!
You can rid yourself of the anxiety that comes with sending cash or credit card to school with your student! You can pre-load a Literati gift card.
Reminder... The book fair is open all this week during the day, and also on parent teacher nights!
In PE class, we had a fun and energetic week! The Cone Flip Treasure Grab was a great way to combine skill practice with movement. Learning about aerobic capacity while doing exercises like jumping jacks, squats, and running helps students understand how their bodies work during physical activity. It’s a great way to integrate both fitness and knowledge!
Mrs. Arnold’s fifth grade social studies lesson on Jamestown was a hands-on and engaging way to teach history through archaeology. Over the three days:
• Tuesday: The students learned about archaeology and how it helps us understand history by studying objects from the past. They explored the importance of artifacts in providing insights into the daily lives, cultures, and technologies of earlier civilizations.
• Wednesday: The students participated in a simulated archaeological dig related to Jamestown. They likely “discovered” various artifacts that would have been used by the early settlers of Jamestown between 1607 and 1610, immersing themselves in the historical experience.
• Thursday: The students then analyzed the artifacts they found, identifying what each item was and explaining its use during the early Jamestown settlement period. This helped them connect the hands-on experience with real historical knowledge about the early years of the English colony.
This approach not only teaches history but also reinforces critical thinking, analysis, and a deeper connection to the past through active participation.
We had the BEST glow day celebration for our September birthdays last week!!! Thank you, thank you to Bunny's Bakery for the cupcakes, our local Wal Mart for the drinks, PTO for always doing the best job organizing, and to our volunteers for giving their time to make this day so very special for our kiddos!
Don't forget about our book fair!
The book fair will begin October 7th and come to a close October 10th. It will also be open on parent/teacher conference nights!
