Purcell Elementary Moves to Distance Learning-UPDATED 10.14.20

October 12, 2020

UPDATE 10.14.20- Grades PK, K and 1st will to in person instruction on 10/14/20.  2nd grade will return to in person instruction on 10/25/20.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We received word late Sunday evening regarding the need to quarantine a number of staff members at Purcell Elementary.  This necessitated the move to distance learning for all students at the school.  The decision to move to a different instructional model is not easy or one that I take lightly.  I understand the burden it places on parents and I am truly sorry for the inconvenience.  Purcell Elementary will remain in distance learning for two weeks from October 12th - October 26th with two days (October 16th and October 19th) being our regularly scheduled Fall Break.  We will continue food service for all students during the time we are in distance learning.  All students will continue to receive free lunch and breakfast.  Monday will be grab and go meals at the Elementary from 10 a.m. -1 2 p.m.  A message will follow this afternoon on meal delivery for the remainder of the week.  Additional directions have been given by Mrs. Stone in her parent newsletter for the transition to distance learning.  This change only impacts Purcell Elementary at this time.  All other schools will meet as normal.

Our community spread of COVID-19 has increased significantly with 35 active cases and 12 new positive cases as of last report.  This increase in cases has an impact on the district.  While we have prepared to move to different instructional models, it is our goal to maintain in person instruction whenever possible.  It will take all of us to make this happen.

Please continue to monitor your child’s health at home with the self assessment checklist.  Do not send them to school if they do not feel well, have fever, have lost their sense of smell or taste, are coughing, have a headache or sore throat.  These are all recognized symptoms of COVID-19.  There are many options for testing available in our area that are free.  Please contact our local health department at (405) 527-6541 for more information on testing.

Safety is our number one priority for students and staff.  Thank you for your cooperation and support as we navigate through the pandemic.  You can reach me at 405-442-0099 ext 105 or via email at mcadoos@purcellps.org or Mrs. Stone, Elementary Principal, at 405-442-0099 ext 205 or via email stonec@purcellps.org
