Did you know that a child's heart is roughly the size of their fist, while an adult's heart is about the size of two hands clasped together? This difference in size reflects the growth and development that occurs as we age. Despite their smaller size, children's hearts pump just as vigorously, supporting their energetic activities and overall health. Understanding these differences can help us appreciate the remarkable changes our bodies undergo throughout life!

February is recognized as Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and the importance of cardiovascular wellness. This month encourages individuals to adopt healthy lifestyle choices, such as eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and managing stress, to protect their hearts. It’s also an opportunity to learn about risk factors for heart disease and to promote heart-healthy habits within our communities. Let’s take this time to prioritize our heart health and support those affected by heart conditions! 🫀♥️

🌟 Celebrating Mrs. Franco – Our Amazing School Counselor! 🌟 This is National School Counselor Appreciation Month, we want to give a huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Franco for all she does for our students, staff, and school community! Mrs. Franco has dedicated the past seven years to education, with the last four spent here at PES, where she has made an incredible impact as our school counselor. Every day, she brings kindness, encouragement, and a listening ear to students, always striving to meet their needs with care and compassion. She is not only a devoted counselor but also a loving wife to Joseph Franco and a proud mom to J.J. and Arabella. She even shares her passion for education with her sister-in-law, Ms. Julie Franco! When she's not at PES, she enjoys spending time with her family—and of course, enjoying a sweet treat like Hershey’s or Snickers! Mrs. Franco, your dedication and heart for our students do not go unnoticed. Thank you for making PES a brighter, more supportive place for everyone! 💙✨ #NationalSchoolCounselorWeek #ThankYouMrsFranco #PESAppreciatesYou

January PES Staff Spotlight! Please join us in honoring Mrs. Brandy Black and Mr. Brent Nabors! These two are such a blessing to so many students, staff, and families! Brandy has been serving students in education for the past 7 years. She began her career in education serving as a paraprofessional for the first 4 years and the past 3 years as a 2nd grade teacher! She loves teaching 2nd grade! Her favorite memory as a student was Super Kids Day. One thing she can't live without is her husband and her children. She enjoys spending time with her family and being involved in all they do. Brent has been serving students for the past 18 years. He will help any student who needs help and loves to joke with them. He's the best crossing guard in the morning too! His favorite memory as a student would be playing sports with his friends at Wayne or the time when he was in 5th grade he got to go outside at recess and play during a blizzard. He can't live without his family and his grandson brings him great joy! We are blessed to have them both at PES and appreciate all they do to make students shine!

In PE our elementary students have been learning about the skeletal system. They’ve learned the names of several bones as well as how to make their bones healthy and strong. Then they raced to build a skeleton before their classmates. 🦴💀🩻 For extra fun, they also learned how to say hello in both Spanish and Portuguese with Chinese coming next week. If you see one of these super smart kiddos be sure to ask them about what they’ve learned! ♥️🐲🎉

Staying healthy and protecting yourself from germs is essential, especially during cold and flu season. Simple practices like frequent handwashing, using hand sanitizer, and avoiding close contact with sick individuals can significantly reduce your risk of illness. Additionally, maintaining a strong immune system through a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep can help your body fend off infections more effectively. Remember, small actions can make a big difference in keeping germs at bay.

Did you know that eating a healthy diet is crucial for maintaining strong bones? Nutrients like calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium play vital roles in bone health, helping to prevent conditions such as osteoporosis and fractures. Incorporating a variety of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and whole grains into your meals can significantly contribute to your bone strength and overall well-being. Healthy Schools Oklahoma has a few lessons you can watch together to get the conversation started! Visit their YouTube page here: January Health Lessons
